State of Fear (2004)

State of Fear The basic story
Are we heading for an environmental disaster? Is global warming real? Eco-terrorists are planning to create an artificial disaster, and a governmental agency, specialized in hunting eco-terrorists, is trying to prevent the disaster. Caught in between, is environmentalist lawyer Peter Evans, who is the main protagonist. Can they stop the terrorists in time?

How was it?
Very entertaining. Thought provoking. Is the debate about climate change really the result of politicians needing a new common enemy, after the fall of the Berlin Wall/Iron Curtain? One of Crichton's best books, though the ending was a bit abrupt. It was very entertaining and it had a lot of very valid points on the whole discussion about global climate changes, both pro and con; what can be documented and what is lies and assumptions. It's a techno-thiller as Crichton wrote them; fast paced, direction and misdirection, making sure the plot is unpredictable and entertaining, believable characters and technology, and no sappy endings. As always Crichton's writing is visual and gripping and easy to read.
