More American Graffiti (1979)

More American Graffiti The basic story
What happened after the events in American Graffiti?

This is the story about how Toad became MIA in Vietnam, how John Milner became a drag racer, and how Steve and Laurie tried to live an ordinary life in the chaos of the late sixties and early seventies with war protesters, hippies and dead or missing friends.

How was it?
Very mixed experience. Generally bland and boring. The part about Toad's tour of duty in 'Nam and how he became MIA was great. It was both clever and entertaining. If this had been the movie, it would have been a five star movie. Sadly it is not. The rest was rubbish, in my opinion.

The way the movie was constructed, with the three main stories taking place in three different time periods, might have worked, had it been done differently. Having some characters referring to others as dead or missing, while they are very much alive in their own part of the movie, or parts of the story that haven't happened yet, in the past tense, is tricky business to get to work properly. In this case, I think it failed.
