RED (2010)

RED The basic story
Frank Moses is a retired CIA hitman, who is living an anonymous and boring life. Then one day, for no apparent reason, he is attacked by an assassination squad. Trying to survive, and figure out why he is suddenly targeted for assasination, he gathers some of his former colleagues, who are also RED, Retired Extremely Dangerous, and the chase begins. They may be old, but they are not over the hill.

How was it?
It was one of the most entertaining action movies I've seen, and I've seen quite a few. An excellent combination of solid story with at few twists and turns, interesting characters, and cool effects... and a few funny ideas to enhance the story. Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, and Karl Urban are perfect for their respective roles, and they make the characters likeable and believable within the frame of the story. For those who like action movies, this movie is highly recommended.

RED is based on a comic book mini-series by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner. The movie is very different from the comic in terms of story, but the story in the movie contains a lot of the entertaining insanity and ingenuity seen in Warren Ellis' books, and it might as well have been one of his books. For those who only saw the movie, and liked it, I can recommend reading the comics too.
