Story: Lydda Jath was given super powers by her father, using Kathoon science, and she came to Earth wanting to join the Legion of Super-Heroes as Night Girl. While she had powers, the Legion found that her powers only working in the absence of light made her unsuited for the Legion and she was rejected. Outside the Legion headquarters she met four other rejected heroes, and together they decided to form the Legion of Substitute Heroes serving as a backup for the Legion [Adventure Comics #306].
