Human, possibly immortal
Base of operations:
House of Mystery, Kentucky Hills, USA
Senator Sandsfield built a house in the Kentucky Hills, made only from materials made in Kentucky, for him self and his wife, and swore that only a pure bred Kentuckian would ever live there. After his wife went insane in the house, the house was sold, but the new owners soon fled the house as they were not true Kentuckians. The fifth owner tried to have the house moved cross the state line, but the house tore itself free, killed the owner and settled down besides a cemetery, around 200 yards from the state line [Who's Who (first series) #1].
The house became known as the House of Secrets, and Abel was hired as the caretaker. Before this, it has been revealed, that he was a solitary lonesome man with only one (imaginary) friend called Goldie [Who's Who (first series) #1].
Skills & abilities:
Abel has a vivid imagination and a special ability for telling stories.
House of Secrets (first series) #81 (1969)
Country of origin:
The first appearance and creator of Abel is not known with certainty. Abel's first appearance is according to DC Comics House of Secrets
#81 from 1969, however, it appears that the actual first appearance was DC Special
#4 which was published a month before House of Secrets
#81. The author of the story in House of Secrets is also unknown, but the artist was Bill Draut who also drew the story in DC Special
. It is very likely that the co-creator therefore is Mark Hannerfeld who wrote the story for DC Special
