Background notes: Like Fethry, Tabby is an American character created by Dick Kinney and Al Hubbard, and he first appeared in the Italian magazine Topolino (#453 from August 2, 1964), in the same story that introduced Fethry. In the first story he didn't make more than a cameo apprarance, but in his second appearance he became one of the victims of Fethry's ideas, along with Donald and his nephews, and became an active character in the stories. Tabby cannot speak, but the readers can read his thoughts and comments on what was happening around him. Even though he is Donald's pet, he is just as associated with Fethry as he is usually also in the stories, and though he is an American creation, he has mostly been used in Italian and Brazilian comics, whereas the Americans have only produced a few stories with the cat for the U.S. market. It may be because Tabby is so closely associated with Fethy, who has never been popular with the Americans either.

When Tabby was introduced, he was a brown cat. Over the years he has had a lot of other colors, white, orange, gray, and even now, more than 40 years later, he is still seen in various colors.

Tabby was never a major character in any way, but he has been in quite a lot of stories over the years (around 250 at the present time), and once or twice a year he is still seen in stories. So far he has not been seen in other media than comics.
