Story: Karl's powers started manifesting themselves when he was a boy. His parents, both professors at the university in Uppsala, tried to help and support him [StormWatch (vol. 1) #9].

Sunburst was one of the original StormWatch members. He was added to the team in order to dilute enmity between Battalion and Flashpoint. It was here he met the Maya, whom he married [StormWatch Sourcebook #1].

On a mission in Kuwait in the final days of Desert Storm, Sunburst was captured along with his teammates Flashpoint and Nautika. The three operatives were believed to be dead, but was instead held captive in Deathtrap's penthouse fortress in Gamorra [StormWatch (vol. 1) #7]. The three operatives being alive was discovered when StormWatch caught a Gamorran smuggler who wanted to cut a deal [StormWatch (vol. 1) #6]. Battalion and his team went straight into Gamorra with a team and saved their missing teammates [StormWatch (vol. 1) #7].

Sunburst and the rest of the rescued team shouldn't have been sent on new missions for some time after they had been rescued, but increasing amounts of terrorist activity, forced the three StormWatch operatives back in action shortly after [StormWatch (vol. 1) #9].


Skills & abilities: Sunburst's body acts as a fusion reactor, enabeling him to generate and release huge amounts of energy. The energy can be released as energy blasts (solar blasts), and used for flight. His body can also absorb energy in the form of heat and flames. The powers seem to increase when he becomes agitated.
